Connecticut consignment stores are seeing an increase in business as the economy slips closer toward a recession.

Store management at Consignment Originals in Orange says business has doubled this year.

Customers aren't just hunting for bargains, but also utilizing the option to cash in old clothes. By using consignment stores to sell old clothing, customers can usually pocket about 40 percent of the sale.

"I'm a waitress, it's a little rougher these days, we're making a lot less," says West Haven mom Stephanie Nuzzo, who uses consignment stores to outfit her 6-month-old. "I couldn't tell you the last time I went to the mall."
