Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch announced Sunday that construction has resumed on a major apartment complex in the city, which he says will create more local jobs.
Finch joined Sen. Richard Blumenthal in making the announcement on Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock.
The officials say the private effort led by Fairfield developer Arthur Hersch will add foot traffic to the area and help support local business.
They say the development will include a pedestrian bridge to the new Fairfield train station nearby.
City officials say the recession halted construction on the $15 million project in 2007, but the recovering local economy brought it back.
The developer says construction should be finished by late summer 2015.
