People are jumping off the Bell Island Bridge in the Rowayton section of Norwalk, and landing into hot water with police over the summertime ritual.
Authorities recently put signs along the bridge on Westmere Avenue, which connects Rowayton to Bell Island. Police are making periodic checks to stop the jumpers and say the 10-foot plunge could be fatal. A young boy reportedly died there in 1991.
Many residents counter that the problem is drivers who park illegally, hang out and throw their bottles in the water, causing glass to pile up.
