A coyote bit a woman in Waveny Park in New Canaan early Thursday morning.
Officials say the woman went to pick up one of her dogs when the coyote bit her.
It is not uncommon to see coyotes on trails at the park. Wildlife experts say coyotes bite five to 10 people every year.
They believe this particular attack could have been due to a den with pups nearby.
Naturalist Mark Fowler says there are steps people can take to help prevent this kind of thing from happening.
"The best way to coexist with wild animals like coyotes is one, don't take your dog out for a walk between dusk or dawn. Also, don't put food out or leave dog food out in your yard where it habituated a coyote. And then third, maybe trash, if there's any animals getting into any trash, put the trash in your garage," said Fowler.
There was another coyote reported around Kiwanis Park in New Canaan last week.
News 12 is told the woman was well enough to drive herself to get medical treatment.
The town hands out coyote safety kits to protect the public.
