Social worker Ed Moran of Family Centers is arming parents with a prom survival kit in the form of a free lecture on May 3 at the Greenwich Library.Moran says it is important for parents to talk to their children in detail about all of their prom plans to ensure safety.
He says giving teens structure and rules can help them out of an uncomfortable situation. Moran says, ?Sometimes the kids want that structure to set a limit because it's a cop out for them. They can say ?no my parents won't let me? instead of ?I don't want to.??
Parents also need to be aware of pre-prom and post-prom parties. They should know who their child is with, if parents will be present, and if alcohol will be consumed. Moran says parents should establish a curfew and be available in case of an emergency.
