Connecticut residents joined the nation Tuesday to remember the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the attacks six years ago. There were 156 people with Connecticut ties that were killed in the attacks.Due to construction at the World Trade Center site, the anniversary ceremony was moved this year to a nearby plaza. The names of the victims were read by firefighters, first responders and construction workers that helped in the recovery efforts.
Several other ceremonies were held locally, including in Greenwich, which lost 22 of its residents in the attacks.
Greenwich First Selectman Jim Lash spoke at the memorial, asking the community to "keep in mind the people that couldn't be with us any longer: both the victims of Sept. 11th, and, of course, the people who are defending us today."
