State lawmakers today announced their support for cameras capable of capturing drivers running red lights. The bill gives city and town officials the right to use the technology, which would be placed atop light poles. It would also require signs to be put up near intersections to warn drivers of the cameras. Supporters say the measure will make for safer intersections. Critics counter that tickets and fines will hit the registered owner of the car, not necessarily the driver behind the wheel. Gov. Dannel Malloy says he supports the proposal.
