A musical duo recently brought their talents to a Bronx hospital to cheer up sick children.

Ray Bryant and Jay Pharr, who are both fathers from southwestern Connecticut, played the drums and guitar as they belted out child-friendly hits at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore. They said their volunteer act is just what the doctor ordered.

Bryant and Pharr's songs got the children moving. "Music cures the soul," said Bryant.

"You can see kids who haven't had a smile or a lot of movement in a few days, and a musician comes in and starts singing," said Meghan Kelly, who directs a program at the children's hospital. "The next thing you know, they're tapping their toes, bopping their heads a little bit."

"When you can get a big smile out of a kid who doesn't seem to be having the best day, it makes your week," said Pharr. "It makes your year."
