State officials want to help people get their new year off on the right foot.
As part of a nationwide initiative by the country’s state parks, the Litchfield Land Trust and many other areas are offering “First Day Hikes” on Jan. 1 at various locations.
Officials say these hikes are a perfect opportunity for people and families to welcome in the new year, enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise.
Hikers say the benefits of walking outdoors, even in the winter, are endless.
It's invigorating. It gets you out into nature, into fresh air,” said one hiker.
The Connecticut DEEP has a full list of First Day Hikes on their website.
