Many southwestern Connecticut residents celebrated the third annual ?Dump the Pump? Day Thursday by leaving their cars at home and using public transportation.
?I think we should do it once a month, or once a week, not once a year,? says Vimal Chauhan, of Stamford.
State Sen. Bob Duff (D- Norwalk) says now more than ever, people are hopping on trains and buses to escape rising gas prices.
?I take the train to work every day because I work in New York City,? says Peter Morano, of New Canaan. ?They actually are getting more crowded, and I think everyone is starting to conserve more.?
Duff says much still remains to be done in the way of improving mass transit, like creating additional parking spaces. He adds the state is working hard to make these improvements.
