An 86-year-old woman and her son are back home in Connecticut after weathering Hurricane Irma on one of the hardest-hit islands in the Caribbean.
It took the Wilcox family days to make it home after the storm tore through St. Maarten. On Monday evening, they celebrated their return to Milford.
Eileen Wilcox and her son Timmy were unable to get a flight out, turning their dream vacation into a nightmare. They rode out the storm as the ferocious winds battered the resort where they were staying.
They say that despite the difficult conditions they faced, they are grateful to the Dutch Marines and the Red Cross for taking care of them as they waited to get off the island.
