Motorcyclists gathered for the annual CT United Ride Sunday in honor of Sept. 11 victims and first responders.

Organizers say about 5,000 riders drove 60 miles through 10 towns in Fairfield County. They hoped to raise $40,000, to donate to help Connecticut firefighters and police officers injured in the line of duty.

"This is what makes America strong," says Fred Garrity, founder of CT United Ride. "Moving forward the right way, for the right reasons and supporting our first responders and our military who keep us safe every day."

Organizers say they had a record number of motorcyclists riding in tribute this year, with some riders among the first to help at Ground Zero. 

A contribution is also scheduled to be made to the United Way.
