Police say a 21-year-old Bridgeport man was killed in last week’s car crash into the Five Mile River in Darien.
They say Youssoupha Diagne was traveling with a 21-year-old woman on Tokeneke Road around midnight on Feb 9. Police say the vehicle left the roadway near the Rowayton Town line and plummeted into the river.
Officers found the car almost fully submerged in the near-freezing water. They found the unidentified 21-year-old woman floating in the water and began life-saving measures. She is in stable condition and recovering at a hospital. Emergency crews continued to search for other passengers and found Diagne. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Two officers who assisted in the water-rescue are recovering with non-life-threatening injuries.
