Darien officials have voted against a proposal to ban plastic bags in town.
The Representative Town Meeting rejected the proposed ordinance last night by a vote of 46 to 36.
Opponents of the ban said residents should have the freedom to choose what type of bag they want to use.
Proponents viewed it as an important first step toward improving the environment.
