The nation could soon learn more about what happened the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, following decades of speculation.

Back in 1992, Congress ordered all documents related to the assassination be released within 25 years.

The deadline is up Thursday.

President Trump tweeted Saturday he's planning to authorize the release of classified government documents. 

But some scholars say, don't expect new bombshell information.

“For any organization, they don't put their most volatile stuff in the filing cabinet if they're smart,” says Dr. Christopher Sharrett at Seton Hall University. “If you take the trouble to carry out a killing at the level of the state you won't leave everything behind with a file saying here's the way we set it up."

According to the White House, it still has the right to hold back any of the documents if they find them to be too classified or too personal.
