A delivery man is in the hospital Wednesday after falling down an elevator shaft.
News 12 is told the man was making a regular grocery delivery at 1160 Cromwell Ave. at around 5 p.m. on the second floor. As he was leaving, he pressed the elevator button. When the doors opened, there was no elevator car. The man stepped in and fell about 15 to 20 feet.
The man was making a delivery to Anna Bordonado. She says she handed the man water and talked to him to help keep him conscious while waiting for a crew to arrive.
Fire crews had to cut through the floor boards in the basement in order to get the man to safety.
Residents in the building say the elevator not showing up or half showing up is normal. They say there is an issue at least once a month.
According to the Department of Building's website, the building at 1160 Cromwell Ave. has a history of violations as well as dozens of complaints.
The elevator is locked up for now and people living at the building hope that it will finally be fixed.
