The Fairfield Fire Department has a new chief.
Members of the Fairfield Fire Commission voted to appoint Denis McCarthy to the role.
McCarthy starts his new five-year contract in Fairfield on Oct. 1.
He says he's lived in Fairfield for 38 years and is excited for the opportunity to serve his hometown department.
McCarthy served as Norwalk's chief for the past 10 years.
As News 12 has reported, the Norwalk Fire Commission reportedly voted in January not to extend his contract.
