One of Norwalk's largest employers says it is relocating many of its workers.
Alcoholic beverage company Diageo says its lease at its North American headquarters is up. This means about 600 workers will be headed to one of two new locations next year.
Diageo said in a statement, "At the start of 2020 we will move to two new offices. Our primary office location will be New York City – lower Manhattan, and bring together our commercial and marketing businesses, with a second smaller office in Fairfield County, Connecticut."
Diageo is one of the largest alcoholic drink companies in the world, with Guinness and Johnnie Walker under its umbrella.
The company has been in Norwalk for almost 20 years and was in Stamford before that.
Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling told News 12 that he would be disappointed if his city were to lose employees.
Nearby business owners expressed concern for the move, saying many of their customers were employees in the Diageo building.
