(AP) - A public defender says court documentshave been filed in which a New York man offers to confess tokilling two Fairfield jewelers on the condition he doesn't get thedeath penalty. Public Defender Joseph Bruckmann says the documents were filedin Bridgeport Superior Court last Thursday on behalf of 27-year-oldChristopher DiMeo of Queens. In the documents, DiMeo says he's willing to plead guilty tokilling Kim and Tim Donnelly in their Fairfield store in February2005. DiMeo contends state prosecutors are unwilling to go along withhis guilty pleas because of their insistence that he get the deathpenalty. DiMeo's public defenders are asking a judge to override theprosecutors. Bruckmann said Monday a hearing on the issue has notyet been set.
