A meeting was held at Bassick High School in Bridgeport Tuesday to discuss a rat infestation at the school.
A parent sent video to News 12 Connecticut last week of what they claim is a rat inside the building. District officials agree with parents that rats inside the school are a serious problem.
Bridgeport Public Facilities Director Jorge Garcia addressed the city's plan of attack Tuesday at the school district's facilities committee meeting. They plan to do more treatment outside the building, near grassy areas and ditches, to keep rats from entering the building. They also plan to monitor and extend baiting throughout the building.
School board members say another problem that leads to rats is students eating in classrooms, as well as teachers keeping food inside. The city says there's a problem with small appliances inside classrooms.
School board members say they plan to meet with the superintendent to discuss the appliance issue - as well as other concerns involving eating in the classroom.
Others say the problem has more to do with what they say are poor conditions inside Bassick.
