The Aquarion Water Company says the state Health Department has declared a water emergency in Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan.
The state Department of Health made the declaration so that Aquarion can move water from other communities to help reservoirs that have been hit hardest by the current drought.
The director of the town's conservation commission said this is the worst drought they've experienced since the late 1990s.
They say today's rain, though it might provide some relief, isn't enough to meet the town's needs.
There was an outdoor watering ban that was issued throughout the summer, but they say they might have to go to Phase 2 of restrictions if this continues.
