Day care centers in southwestern Connecticut say the economy is taking a toll on their businesses. Some parents have their children spending less time at day care and more time either with a parent working from home or a babysitter. It is being attributed to the rising costs of gas and food and an increase in rent or mortgage payments.Doris Quagliani, the director of Tutor Time in Norwalk, says parents find themselves tightening their budget, not necessarily because they have lost their jobs. She says they have told her they don't want to pull their children from the day care program.Quagliani says she has a long waiting list if parents start pulling their children out of the program.
