The state Senate approved a bill overnight to overhaul the state's education system after hours of debate.
Gov. Dannel Malloy announced a compromise on the plan he introduced in December.
Malloy said the reforms will set aside nearly $100 million for public schools.
The bill will help 25 low-performing schools.
Teacher tenure is also in the bill and would require annual performance evaluations.
The bill now moves on the House of Representatives. They have until midnight tomorrow, when the legislative session ends, to pass it.
