Officials across southwestern Connecticut reached new heights Saturday morning as they took part in helicopter training.
Sky Health organized an outreach program for emergency medical service crews and fire departments across the state to learn what it takes to operate a rescue involving a helicopter.
The company's chopper landed in Sherwood Island Park in Westport where dozens of EMS crews and firefighters came out for hands-on experience.
Organizers say while the need to airlift patients isn't common in the area, it's important to know how to handle such situations.
"We do this up front so there's no questions when the time comes because when there is an emergency, people will be focused on taking care of the patient and we want to make sure the responders are safe," says Don Macmillan, of Sky Health.
Sky Health representatives say that they intend to do more training in the area going forward.
