Former state senator and convicted felon Ernie Newton won the Democratic endorsement for the Senate seat he held seven years ago. The vote for the 23rd Senate District, held last night in Bridgeport, awarded Newton support over incumbent Sen. Ed Gomes and state Rep. Andres Ayala. Newton is attempting to recapture the same position he relinquished in 2005, when he pleaded guilty to corruption charges. He was released from prison in 2010.
