Eversource Energy linemen braved soaring temperatures in heavy clothing Monday to make sure residents had the power to stay cool with highs in the 90s.
They wear rubber gloves, rubber sleeves, face masks and hard hats to protect themselves -- but those items also hold in the heat.
They wear sunscreen and try to stay hydrated, according to Michael Bartkus, the chief lineman at Eversource.
"We all kind of look out for one another when it gets like this," he says. "Sometimes you don't even realize you might be getting into trouble, because you're just working."
Another problem is that the heat decreases the effectiveness of their equipment, so the utility company asks residents to remain patient during hot weather repairs.
