The former Waterbury mayor, who is serving time for sexually assaulting two young girls, is asking for a reduced sentence, according to the Connecticut Post.
Philip Giordano, the former mayor, testified for nearly two hours before a judge on Friday, according to the newspaper.
The paper reports that Giordano turned down a deal for a lighter sentence that would have forced him to testify against an organized crime associate.
The report claims Giordano said his former lawyer never informed him of a 15-year offer that did not require him to testify.
He's currently serving a 37-year federal prison term.
