Health experts in southwestern Connecticut are discussing what Charlie Sheen's HIV announcement means locally.
The actor announced Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show that he is HIV-positive.
Infectious disease doctors say HIV is not a death sentence - neither for patients nor their sexual partners.
However, Dr. A.C. Demidont, of the Circle Care Center, says that HIV patients do need to take precautions with sex.
Demidont recommends preventative medicines like Truvata for patients and their partners.
Connecticut health officials are also rolling out an ambitious new education campaign, urging people to get tested for HIV.
