As temperatures continue to drop throughout the state, News 12 Connecticut spoke with experts on how to keep your pipes from freezing.

Basso says once the temperature plummets, cold air gets inside the open spaces between pipes and the wall, causing them to freeze. He says there are ways to stop this from happening.

Basso suggests trying to get the warmth from other rooms in the home to warm up the frozen pipes naturally. He also suggests keeping the vanity in front of your sinks cracked open for heat and keeping the faucets running lightly when you know the temperatures are dropping.

If frozen pipes continue to be a problem in your home, Basso says it's most likely because of poor insulation around the piping.
