A Fairfield attorney kicked off a public awareness campaign to help combat online scams that target seniors.
Mark Arons says a close relative of his was recently targeted. He wants to encourage other families to educate and protect their older loved ones about such scams.
"So it's particularly important now to monitor what they're doing, especially online and also on their cell phones. Make sure that they know to be very skeptical of any requests that they get, whether it's through the internet or whether they get calls asking for money or from a bank saying they need to verify your password," he says.
Arons also recommends to those who believe they are being targeted to not to be shy about saying "no thank you" and simply hang up the phone.
