With beautiful weather all across Connecticut Saturday, towns are grappling with how to allow residents to enjoy parks and beaches while preventing the spread of COVID-19.
In Fairfield, beaches, marinas and lakes are open for residents only, and only for passive recreation like walking, running or biking.
No beach chairs, coolers or gathering in groups is allowed. Pavilions and playgrounds are also off-limits.
"Our goal is to encourage people to do the right thing," says Fairfield Police Captain Robert Kalamaras. "We're not looking to come in with a strong hand, but at the same time, if we have people loitering or in large groups on the beach, we're going to ask them to disperse. And if it comes down or rises to the level of enforcement, we'll be forced to take action."
In Trumbull, Twin Brooks and Old Mine parks are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for passive recreation and residents will need a 2019 or 2020 parking sticker.
