Penfield Beach in Fairfield was among several areas in southwestern Connecticut that held Fourth of July fireworks shows Friday night.

Residents began filing in as early as 5 a.m. to try and secure vantage points in the sand.

Some residents with beachside homes hosted friends and family at viewing parties.

Others barbecued breakfast, lunch and dinner on the beach.
