Kohl's in Fairfield is slated to close next month, store officials announced.

The company says the store will close Oct. 17.

Kohl's became a landmark in town, taking over the "Caldor" location 20 years ago.

The property on Tunxis Hill Road was sold last year, but the company did not specify why it is closing.

The company says employees have been offered the chance to transfer to its other locations, including Trumbull, Norwalk and Orange.
