Fairfield receives Democracy Cup again for high voter turnout

Fairfield achieved the highest voter turnout in the city category for municipalities with more than 65,000 residents. In a Facebook post, town officials said they had 44.2% voter turnout for last fall's elections.

For the second year in a row, Fairfield was honored Thursday for its civic participation.

Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas presented officials with the Democracy Cup-the prize recognizing municipalities with the highest voter participation across four categories: small town, mid-sized town, large town and city.

Fairfield achieved the highest voter turnout in the city category for municipalities with more than 65,000 residents.

In a Facebook post, town officials said they had 44.2% voter turnout for last fall's elections.

The Democracy Cup was started 26 years ago, focusing on federal election turnout. Since 2023, it has been awarded for municipal election turnout.
