Fairfield University's Class of 2010 is mourning a student who died in a car crash Saturday morning.
Sophomore Kristen Duhamel, 19, died when the car she was in with two other passengers crashed on the Merritt Parkway. Police say she was sitting in the backseat of the car when the driver lost control while making a turn.
Many of the students took to the Internet to express their grief. More than 500 of Duhamel's friends and acquaintances signed up for a memorial page on the social networking site Facebook.
"Our community is always shaken when it loses one of its members, particularly an undergraduate student full of life. On behalf of the university, I extend my sincerest condolences to Kristen's parents,? the university?s president said in a statement.
A memorial service was held for Duhamel Saturday. Duhamel was from Rhode Island, a nursing major and was training to be a Eucharistic minister.
The driver of the car is in fair condition at Stamford Hospital and the other passenger was treated and released from Greenwich Hospital.
