A Fairfield woman remains hospitalized in critical condition after she was hit by a bicyclist in New York City's Central Park Thursday afternoon.
Police say 59-year-old Jill Tarlov was hit as the cyclist swerved to avoid other people in a park bike lane. News 12 Connecticut has learned that Tarlov and her husband have lived in Fairfield for decades, where they raised their two children.
Neighbors say the couple has spent more time in New York City in recent years after their kids left home. Tarlov was allegedly shopping for her daughter's birthday present when she was struck by the 31-year-old cyclist.
Residents say the former 1010 WINS employee is a kind, social and welcoming person who spends time volunteering at local schools and gardening in her yard. They say they are heartbroken over the tragic accident and are praying for a miracle.
News 12 was told Tarlov's husband, Mike Wittman, is a senior vice president of finance at CBS Television Stations. The president of CBS Television Stations released a statement, saying, "We are shocked and saddened by the horrible and senseless tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jill, Mike and their family."
The bicyclist was reportedly treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital. Police say the investigation is still ongoing, but no charges have been filed against him.
