Members of the Chabad of Fairfield came together Monday night to celebrate a Jewish tradition.
Purim is the holiday commemorating the saving of the Jewish people of ancient Persia from extermination.
It's observed with the reading of a scripture and by gifting food to friends, giving charity to people who need it and enjoying a festive meal.
The Purim party today celebrates Jewish unity and triumph in the face of hatred and persecution.
"It's a powerful message for everyone that when things look bleak and we don't see how we're going to pull through, let's have a little faith. God has a good history and he'll come through once again and that's what Purim celebrates," said Rabbi Shlame Landa, with the Chabad of Fairfield.
Monday night's event was organized as a community-wide program, inviting all to participate regardless of their religious affiliation.
