Families and friends celebrated the safe return of hundreds of cadets from SUNY Maritime College in Throgs Neck Monday morning.
More than 600 student cadets have been at sea for several months on a training exercise. The 90-day training took them to domestic and international shores including Ireland, Denmark and Portugal.
Cadets stepped off the vessel, which spans 565 feet, to be reunited with their families waiting on the shore.
The student cadets will get a week off before heading back to the classroom.
The Maritime College homecoming celebration is a long-standing tradition at the college, dating back at least 140 years.
