A teen held by immigration officials for nearly four months was reportedly reunited with his family Tuesday.
A family spokesperson says 18-year-old Mario Aguilar was released Tuesday afternoon from a detention center in Boston after 111 days in custody.
A judge granted Aguilar's request for asylum to stay in the country Monday, but Immigration and Customs Enforcement had the right to keep him in custody while to government decided if it would appeal the ruling.
ICE did not comment to the Courant on the status of the appeal.
Aguilar, who is from Guatemala, was a student at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven. He was picked up by agents at a Milford courthouse where he was appearing on unrelated charges connected to an accident blamed on alcohol.
Aguilar came to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor after escaping gang violence in Guatemala.
