Fannie Lou Hamer High School's student government held its sixth annual anti-violence celebration Thursday.
For some students, violence is an all-too-common occurrence. Bobby Colon, 19, lost an uncle to gun violence.
The students say solidarity helps them cope with such losses. They avoid bullying and say they treat each other like family.
They also say they hope other schools will follow their lead and promote peace inside and outside of the classroom.
