Few Westport retail stores opened their doors back up Wednesday after being closed or limiting their services due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, most business owners say just because stores can reopen, doesn't mean they are going to - downtown Westport is still a scene filled with many closed shops.
Around The Rosy Boutique reopened its doors, and the manager Theresa Walsh says she's had several customers.
"We are happy to get the 'open' sign up," she says. "It feels like relief, even though there's still some anxiety."
Many of the clothing racks are outside now, only three customers are allowed inside at a time and everyone must wear a face mask.
"We wanted to have them have a lot of options while they're waiting to just look at stuff," says store owner Taryn Bolotin.
Some residents say they are not nervous about going shopping, while others say they're not ready to go back into stores.
"It's going to start off a little slow," says Walsh. "I don't know if everyone's ready to be out in public quite yet. I do think it will pick up over time."
Connecticut Retail Merchants Association says most stores reopened, although some national chains only opened a few locations to see if enough customers show up.
Westport had a delay in its outdoor permitting process, meaning some restaurants might take longer to reopen.
