The Stamford Fire Department says a fire broke out Saturday night in a Riverside Avenue condominium complex.
Fire officials say the fire started in the chimney of one of the apartments and spread to the other side of the building.
"It started as a chimney fire and extended to the adjacent condominiums on either side," says Deputy Chief Eric Lorenz. "We're looking at six units total affected by either smoke damage or fire damage directly."
The fire forced 20 people inside the condo complex to evacuate.
Neighbors in the complex tell News 12 that it is a very close-knit community and they are thankful everyone is accounted for.
Property managers were at the scene to assess the damage on Sunday.
