Fire crews battle junkyard blaze in West Milford as fires and explosions reported overnight

Firefighters battled a junkyard blaze in West Milford on Weaver Road that involved explosions and burned for hours overnight.

The fire was reported around 10:38 p.m. with explosions heard before crews arrived. Firefighters found heavy fire involving a structure and numerous vehicles.

Crews from West Milford were joined by departments from Passaic, Bergen, Morris and Sussex counties, along with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

The fire was brought under control around 2 a.m. Crews remained on scene for hours working to extinguish hot spots.

One nearby home was evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported. The West Milford Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Weaver Road was closed between Macopin Road and Otterhole Road but reopened around 8:30 a.m.
