A woman crashed a Jeep into Staples High School in Westport Wednesday, causing a gas leak and forcing an evacuation of students and staff, fire officials say.
Officials say the woman inadvertently crashed the Jeep into the culinary department classroom just before 8 a.m. during student drop-off time.
The school was evacuated because the crash caused a gas leak and triggered the fire alarm to go off.
Officials say the gas inside of the culinary department was quickly turned off and that Southern Connecticut Gas Company responded to the scene to assist in repairs.
Students and staff were let back into the building a short time later, and classes resumed as normal for the day.
Firefighters say no one was injured during the incident.
Officials did not say what caused the woman to accidently drive into the building.
