A ceremony was held Wednesday at the Stamford Fire Headquarters to honor firefighter Rocco Terenzio.
Terenzio was awarded the Police and Firemen's Insurance Association's Heroes Hall of Fame award for saving a man while he was off duty.
Terenzio says he heard an explosion and immediately ran to the home where it happened. Without any protective gear, he entered the home and carried the confused and bleeding man outside to safety.
"I was going off reaction," says Terenzio, "I wasn't thinking about what I was doing. I jumped and went to work. It's what we do and I think any of my brother firefighters would have done the same thing."
Firefighters say if Terenzio had not acted, the victim might not have made it out alive.
