Firefighters battled the elements Wednesday as flames tore through a Milford home.
The couple who lives at the home on Old Point Road says it seems like lightning hit their house, but firefighters can't confirm that.
The couple says a storm came through, they heard a loud sound and then noticed a fire in the laundry room. They were able to escape with their children unharmed.
Firefighters say the smoke was thick and there was significant damage to the home.
Firefighters say the heat and the storm made the situation more challenging.
Investigators are working to figure out caused the fire.
