Mitchells held a benefit to recognize several local first responders and volunteers who sacrificed their safety and time during and after Sandy.

Dozens came out to celebrate the volunteers for helping the residents of Westport and Weston.

Store owner Bill Mitchell said he invited police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and volunteers to his store for some holiday cheer and to show the community's deep appreciation.

Mitchell says he plans on making it an annual event.
