Flu season arrives much later than normal
The flu season has arrived in southwestern Connecticut and health officials say it's the latest start in 25 years.
Until this month, there weren't enough flu cases in the U.S. to signal the start of the season and doctors say it's usually halfway over by now.
"It is extremely unusual. Usually we start seeing cases of the flu in October, November or December. This is a late start," says Dr. Kumkum Modwel, of the Urgent Care Center in Norwalk.
The Connecticut Department of Public Health has reported a total of 92 people statewide have tested positive for the flu, including 27 in Fairfield County, an unusually low number for this time of year.
