A forum was held at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Stamford Saturday to mark one year since the death of Reverend Dr. Tommie Jackson.
On July 26, 2023, Jackson was killed when he was struck by Stamford Police Officer Zachary Lockwood's car on Wire Mill Road.
Lockwood was responding to a minor traffic accident and was traveling 65 mph at the time.
As News 12 has reported, the speed limit in that neighborhood is 25 mph.
During the forum, people discussed strategies to demand for justice and accountability.
Lockwood is still employed by the department on paid leave.
People in the community tell News 12 they are outraged by that decision.
Many, including Jackson's widow, are still searching for answers.
"Police are here to protect and serve, but this police officer is being protected and served. We're not being served any justice," said Dorye Jackson.
Forum organizers say the case being tried in Milford Superior court puts them at a disadvantage.
They say they would have preferred to have the case heard in Bridgeport.
Lockwood has pled not guilty.
