The founder of Connecticut's only animal ambulance service has died.
Jon Nowinsky gave nearly all of his time serving animals, and he was best known as the founder of the Emergency Animal Response Service (EARS). His family says he passed away peacefully earlier this week after a long battle with a serious illness.
Nowinsky's vision started with just one SUV he retrofitted with oxygen tanks and first-aid kits. Eventually, he gathered the funds for a full-size ambulance.
EARS saved the lives of many animals in serious condition, while Nowinsky refused compensation for his time and effort.
Those close to him say Nowinsky had a calming, friendly effect, that stemmed from a love for animals and boundless positivity.
It is unknown about how EARS will proceed in the future.
